PHILADELPHIA, PA (Headline News USA) (Copyright © 2025) – A person is in critical condition after being shot in the head while sitting outside his home in Southwest Philadelphia early on Monday morning.
According to NBC Philadelphia, the shooting took place at 2:00 AM on May 5, 2025 in the Elmwood neighborhood of Philadelphia near South 62nd Street and Woodland Avenue. The Philadelphia Police Department reported that officers arrived to discover the victim suffering from a head gunshot wound. Medical personnel transported the victim to a close hospital where he continues to fight for his life in critical condition.
The police received reports from witnesses about someone in dark clothing who ran from the location into a black vehicle after the incident occurred. The authorities examine surveillance footage in their search for the suspect while they work to establish why the attack took place.
According to 6ABC, the nearby residents heard multiple gunshots then found a man bleeding on the stoop after the shooting.
A rapid series of recent shootings took place in the city during this incident. A 23-year-old man received a gunshot wound when he was driving near North 11th and Oxford Streets only a few hours before the other incident. The victim suffered an arm and chin gunshot injury while his bullet-riddled vehicle crashed after the attack. NBC Philadelphia reports that police at the crime scene collected 22 spent shell casings to show the assault involved two separate weapons.
During the last week, three people suffered injuries while sitting together on a stoop located in the Kingsessing area of Southwest Philadelphia. The shooting occurred at midnight when bullets hit three victims in a row. The three victims received gunshot wounds which targeted their head along with their chest and their leg. The victims received hospital treatment after police began their search for suspects (NBC Philadelphia).
The city of Philadelphia has observed an alarming increase in gun-related crimes throughout the past few years. The community leaders together with city officials support expanded outreach programs and violence prevention strategies and they promote increased resident participation to solve crimes.
The police department asks people to contact their tip line or use the city crime reporting portal to submit information about the South 62nd Street shooting and other recent incidents.
