HOUSTON, TX (Headline News USA) (Copyright © 2025) — A family party in southeast Houston descended into chaos early Sunday morning when an uninvited guest allegedly returned with a firearm and opened fire, killing one man and injuring 14 others, according to police.
The incident occurred around 12:50 a.m. on May 5 in the 6000 block of Flamingo Street. Speaking at a press conference, Assistant Chief Patricia Cantu of the Houston Police Department said the suspect had been asked to leave the private gathering and returned with deadly intent.
“It was a family gathering. It was a celebration, and one individual was asked to leave,” Cantu said. “He wasn’t happy about it. He left the location and decided to return, and when he returned, he shot up the location,” according to The Economic Times.
Officers responded to a chaotic scene with victims scattered both inside and outside the home. Some were treated at a nearby Jack in the Box parking lot before being transported to hospitals, while others took themselves to emergency rooms, Houston Chronicle reported. At least several of the injured are in critical condition.
Cantu also stated that attendees of the party returned fire. “There was a return of gunfire from the party as well, so we do have multiple scenes to investigate,” she said.
Police have detained multiple individuals for questioning but have not confirmed whether the gunman is among them. As of Sunday afternoon, no arrests had been announced.
Victims were reported to be between their mid-20s and early 40s, according to authorities.
The Houston Police Department is urging anyone with information to contact their Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or reach out anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
