Kim Kardashian Wraps Six-Year Legal Journey With Law Program Graduation
LOS ANGELES, CA (Headline News USA) (Copyright © 2025) — Kim Kardashian’s long road toward becoming a lawyer hit a milestone this week as she celebrated her graduation from California’s Law Office Study Program — a little-known legal apprenticeship that took her six years to complete.
The 44-year-old was surrounded by her four children, close friends, and sisters Khloé and Kourtney during a backyard ceremony on May 21. “I finally graduated law school after six years!!!” she wrote in an Instagram Story, showing herself on stage in a cap and gown, holding her certificate of completion.
Kardashian didn’t take the traditional path through law school. Instead, she trained under a San Francisco-based law firm as part of California’s Law Office Study Program — one of just four U.S. routes that allows aspiring attorneys to qualify without attending an accredited law school. The program requires 18 hours of weekly study for 48 weeks each year, a commitment she stretched to six years due to COVID delays and her full-time career.
“This wasn’t easy or handed to me,” Kardashian previously wrote after passing the First-Year Law Students’ Exam — often called the “baby bar” — on her fourth try in 2021. “I failed this exam three times in two years, but I got back up each time and studied harder” (Fox 11).
By the time she walked across the makeshift stage in her yard, Kardashian had clocked over 5,100 hours of legal study, according to her mentor Jessica Jackson. “Six years ago, Kim Kardashian walked into this program with nothing but a fierce desire to fight for justice,” Jackson said during the ceremony. “No law school lectures, no ivory tower shortcuts — just determination and a mountain of case log books to read” (Fox 11).
Kardashian’s journey has been equal parts public and personal. Inspired by her late father, attorney Robert Kardashian Sr., she began her legal studies in 2018. Over the years, she’s taken on criminal justice reform as a public mission, helping to secure clemency for several incarcerated individuals and using her platform to spotlight wrongful convictions (People).
In March of this year, she sat for the Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam, a required ethics test in California that precedes the Bar exam. While she hasn’t yet taken the Bar, completing both the MPRE and the baby bar marks significant progress toward full licensure (People).
The private ceremony reflected the intimate nature of the achievement. Videos posted to social media showed Kardashian’s kids rushing to the stage to hug her as the crowd cheered. Khloé Kardashian later shared a clip from the family’s post-grad lunch, saying, “This was just such a cool accomplishment… I’m so proud of her.” Kourtney joined in too, snapping a selfie while wearing her sister’s cap with the caption, “Supportive sister” (People).
Also on hand was CNN’s Van Jones, who has worked alongside Kardashian on justice reform initiatives. He praised her persistence through the program, calling her legal journey one of the most inspiring he’s seen.
Though she hasn’t yet reached the finish line, Kardashian’s determination has already defied expectations. “I was told by top lawyers this was close to impossible and harder than the traditional route,” she once wrote. “But it was my only option — and it feels so, so, sooooo good to be here” (Fox 11).
